'Teen-Age Rockwell' Honors Mattingly (Evansville Courier 04/28/96)

They call James Fiorentino a "teen-age Norman Rockwell."

His artwork hangs in the Baseball Hall of Fame, alongside paintings done by Rockwell himself and Andy Warhol, and in the Ted Williams Museum.

The 19-year-old Fiorentino's latest work is a tribute to Evansville native Don Mattingly, the former New York Yankees all-star first baseman.

Entitled "The Yankee Captain," the full-color watercolor measures 18 by 24 inches and costs $295. It is limited to 500 prints, each of which has been signed by Mattingly and Fiorentino. About 300 already have been sold.

In a news release from Brenner Classic Moments of New Jersey, which is marketing the litho, Mattingly is quoted as saying the print "has a lot of sentimental value for me since it captures my entire career with the Yankees."

Brenner officials said a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Children's Health Fund, a not-for-profit organization co-founded by singer-songwriter Paul Simon to ensure and promote access to health care for all children in the United States.

Brenner Classic Moments is located at 666 Plainsboro Road, Suite 1200, Plainsboro, N.J., 08536. For information, call (800) 519-0029.
